Tara's Rescue Horses
Now that I have my own little horse ranch just out side of Nashville I am finally able to do one of the things that I have always had a calling for.
Oceans of Steel
Rescued May 11th, 2007

This is the first day that Ocean arrived at my home. She is an 11 year old TB mare and in this picture was 8 months pregnant, and bread to a draft stallion. This picture was taken after her first bath. She arrived about 3-4 hundred pounds under weight and had lice and fungus very badly. We wormed and vaccinated her this same day. Since Ocean is pregnant, she is not allowed to eat the sescue that grows in most pastures. It has a weakening effect on the Uterin lining and causes premature labor. We put her up in a stall in the barn and started her on some Orchard grass that we had in the loft. We slowly implemented Alfalfa and grain into her diet and before we knew it, she was eating an entire bale of hay, 4 flakes of Alfalfa, 6 quarts of grain and 2 cups of corn oil per day! After a few weeks her personality was starting to shine through and although we didn't see her gaining any weight except in her belly, we were happy to see that the baby was finally getting the food it needed to grow!
Update
Ocean had a very healthy filly July 26th, 2007
"Oceans Amber Glory"

Ocean had Amber at approx 4am. I went to check on Ocean at 6am and was so excited to see that our little girl was still trying to get up. Ocean of course was only concerned with her morning feed. Amber is a rare Gold Champaign. I think god rewarded me with such a beautiful filly because of all the hard work I put into saving them.

This is still day one and since Ocean has now had the baby she can eat the grass in the pastue. She is so happy to be out and eating the yummy green grass with her new little girl! Amber wants to come see me. She is very sweet and playful!

After a long day they deside to settle in for the night.

This is about a month after Amber was born and the two of them are doing very well. As you can see Ocean still needs to gain some weight, but she is heavier now than she was at 8 month pregnant, so we think she is doing great! She gets lunged about three times a week and has her work cut out for her chasing Amber around all the time! Ocean will be donated to a theraputic riding school after Amber is weaned.

Here she is striking a pose in her new halter. My dog Shiela and her brother Tyson are in the back ground. I've decided to keep Amber!!!
Update
Here she is showing off her new teeth! This was taken at the end of Sept. What a cutie!!!
